Kadwa's Homeopathy Clinic Diary to aid learning homeopathy.: February 2014

Once when i was working as physician with a residential training programme, many people came to me with the complaint of cough. They said that they have the cough after taking sour items served for their lunch. Sulph, Nux and Sepia generally worked for them. The remedies were differentiated on the basis of their other symptoms.

A patient came to me with a complaint of toothpain. He said that he was taking some remedies for toothpain at his town. He came here(to my town) last night but forgot to bring his medicines. He said that he wants immediate relief. He was all the way smiling while narrating his complaint.

I gave him Belladonna 200 along with Calc Fluor 30 bd for few days. This relieved his complaint. Of course i did the repertorial analysis after giving the remedies. i think that Bell worked here.

A person was having a blood pressure reading of 160/110 inspite of taking the allopathic medicines for high bp. He was under too much pressure to meet the cost of his younger daughter's engg college fees. He also had an altercation with his neighbor over some issues that her wife and elder daughter had with the neighbors. Aurum Met 30 bd for few days normalized his bp reading to 130/90.

Many patients come to me with the complaint of blocked nose. They want immediate relief. i have used that remedy with 2 marks (please refer to the chart below) in these cases which is confirmed from their other symptoms.

Of course Nux Vomica and Pulsatilla are other remedies that work well if symptoms agree.

Once i was working as a physician for a residential camp held for a month. The participants belonged to 40-65 age group. It was the winter season and sometimes there was much dust in the air due to winds. i used the following rubrics to shortlist remedies. The indicated remedy for each patient visit was confirmed from other presenting symptoms of the patient. The indicated remedy worked well in most of the cases and therefore i decided to share this with you.

A patient came to me with a complaint of itching in groin. He said that he is not able to focus on his work as he is distracted by itching. He said that he wants fast relief. He came to me many times a day for reporting his condition.

Ars worked for him. Earlier sulphur was given which provided some relief.

A patient came to me with a complaint of painful boil in his nose. He said 'Look this boil is still there even after taking the allopathic treatment. i want the boil to be eradicated fast.'
Merc Sol 30 bd for few days provided him the relief.

A person came to me for his throat hoarseness. He said that this complaint often blows into a severe cold. He then takes an allopathic treatment which causes severe weakness post treatment. Ammonium Carb 200 was given and it helped quickly.

A man aged 50 came to me. He said that he couldn't get adequate sleep for past 15 days as he was in the service of his spiritual master. He complained of itching on his legs. He was thirstless. He was inclined towards philosophical thinking. Sulphur 200 provided him complete relief. i voted in favor of Sulphur irrespective of the fact that it couldn't top the chart. Though pulsatilla covers all rubrics here, these kind of people can be pulsatilla rarely.

A gentleman aged 50 having a serene and impressive facial expression came to me. He was very mild mannered. He said that "See I am feeling that cold is about to start. Whenever I have cold I have to take a long treatment. Once I had cold for a long period of time. Due to it's longevity it turned into a tubercular infection. i gave him pulsatilla 30. It didn't help much. i gave him a dose of Bacillinum 200 followed by few doses of Phosphorus 200 which gave excellent relief.

What makes totality of symptoms? We can see that here the remedies that worked don't top the repertory chart. But these remedies do have influence over some of the symptoms. It means here constitution is defined by those symptoms and not the ones i think to be more significant. This is one of the major obstacle in deciding the homeopathic remedy. Patience and openness of mind help otherwise we may panic.

A patient came to me with a complaint of water like sensation in his ear. He said that earlier AIIMS doctor has told him that this condition is quite serious and it should be given due attention. i gave him bell 200. He got relief, still he went to the ENT specialist to confirm that there was nothing serious. i think that had i given him Aconite 200 he wouldn't have gone to the ENT specialist.

This is a very interesting case. A person who was undergoing training at a 30 day residential camp came to me. His age was 50 and he came to me with a complaint of dim vision in the left eye. He said that the complaint started recently. He also said that everything else is normal. He was given a single dose of Natrum Mur 200. Next day he came and said that there was no relief. Now as he saw that some patients are also referred to outside hospital for specialized treatment he said that he is actually suffering from diabetes and he wants to check about diabetic retinopathy. He also complained of constipation. He was given Argentum Nitricum 200 on the basis of following rubrics. He got overall better under the influence of Arg Nit like got relief in constipation. As far as his diabetic retinopathy is concerned it will depend on his seriousness to control his diabetes level. It will also need a long term homeopathic treatment. No quick fix solutions can be expected for such issues.

A 55 yo gentleman came to me with chief complaint of deep apthae in his palate of mouth. He was complaining about the timing of physicians. He said that he is very punctual about time. Sulph and merc could not do much for his condition. Phosphorus cured his apthae.

A 28 yo man came to me with a complaint of anxiety with palpitations. He works as a construction worker. He got his ECG done at the govt hospital which was normal. He was not working due to palpitations as he worried about something serious happening. In the past he was treated successfully for his recurring abscess in arm pits with Silicea 200. A 57 yo gentleman suffered from throat paralysis after developing a clot in his head. He is always very warm to his relations belonging to the upper class. He is too hard for those who are poor and educationally deprived. He was an alcoholic until paralytic attack and his father also died of alcoholism. All his brothers are alcoholic. A 25 yo unmarried gentleman came to me. He said that he had epileptic attacks in childhood. He is on the homeopathic treatment. He didn't have any epileptic attack after starting homeopathic treatment. He told further that he belongs to another city and won't be able to contact his homeopath. A 44 yo lady comes to me regularly for her various complaints. Initially when she came for cold and cough she generally did better on Nux Vomica. Later she started asking remedies for her gynec complaints. She did better for her profuse and debilitating leucorrhoea on calc carb 200. At times when i found her behaving like a typical home maker when she presented with a complaint of delayed menses or even leucorrhoea i gave her Pulsatilla 200 and she did well. Sepia 200 also helped at times when she presented herself in a complaining mood. She also did well for her recurring urticaria on Sulphur 200. It cured her chronic complaint of urticaria. When i did analysis for presenting her case i could see that i never gave her merc sol. i will see how that affects her if it is found indicated for her conditions when she visits in time to come. Some other details about her. She dresses at her best. Sometimes she complains about her relations. There is a mark of pride in her bahavior. At times when she complains she says that her leucorrhoea gets worse while passing urine. She doesn't like cold surroundings but prefers open air. She is an obese lady.

A 42 yo lady came to me with a complaint of painful growth of her thumb joint (where the thumb joins the hand). It was accompanied by stiffness of thumb. This has happened after she injured her hand in an accident. She was given rhus tox 30, arnica 30 and symphytum 200 for one month. i opt for repetition of remedies in such cases and also go for combination remedies. There was 50% decrease in the growth. The pain and stiffness reduced by 90%. After one month she was given calc fluor 30 alongwith the aforesaid remedies in repeated doses . Symph 200, rhus tox 30 + arnica 30, calc fluor 30 were given in alternation. Pain and stiffness went away completely. The growth reduced by 70%. Later she was asked to take silicea 200 and calc phos 200 as weekly dose in alternation for one month which made her thumb joint almost normal.

This is one of my earlier cases where i never did any repertorial analysis. When i did the analysis for presenting the case, i could see many other remedies coming at the top, but i do think that the remedies that i used worked very well as specific remedies. This case raised my image in the eyes of my patients and it also reinforced my commitment to homeopathy. Today also i believe in organ and function remedies. Other polychrest remedies that occupy top positions on the repertorial chart should be used only on their clear cut indications. They can't be used as specific remedies.

This is a case of a 52 yo gentleman. He is known as a good administrator and he maintains warmth in all his social relations. He fell down from his scooter and injured his leg. He got treatment from an orthopaedic surgeon who ruled out any fracture after doing all tests. He didn't have any swelling in the morning. He got swelling by evening increasing gradually throughout the day. He was comfortable during rest and the pain increased by movements. i gave him bryonia 30 in repeated doses in the beginning for 15 days which did nothing substantial. Then rhus tox 30 + arnica 30 was given for 15 days. It provided 25% relief. Phosphorus 200 was given every week and rhus + arn was continued daily. This protocol provided him complete relief over one and half months.

A two yo baby was brought to me by his father for the complaint of severe itching. The baby has made many rashes and marks on his body due to itching. There was no relief from allopathic medication. He appeared to be very cheerful. He was smiling and with affectionate looks. His father said that he likes to eat food without any interference from others. He arranges the palate himself and doesn't like others feeding him. Libertinism and admonition agg rubrics are taken to reflect his aforesaid behavior. i agree that the meaning will change when the rubrics are applied to grown up people. He did well on Pulsatilla 30 in repeated doses. When there was relapse of complaint he was given Pulsatilla 200 od for few days which cured his urticaria. The baby prefered cold surroundings and open air.

A 57 yo gentleman came to me with a complaint of watery discharge from eye. He suffered from paralysis of right eye some 4 years back and he has this complaint since then. He feels better overall when he sits on a chair with his head bending backwards. Senega 200 fortnightly doses over 2-3 months provided him excellent relief. Snakewort

Catarrhal symptoms, especially of the respiratory tract, and distinct eye symptoms of a paralytic type, are most characteristic. Circumscribed spots in chest left after inflammations.

Eyes.--Hyperphoria, better by bending head backwards. Acts on the rectus superior. Blepharitis; lids dry and crusty (Graph). Dryness, with sensation as if too large for orbits. Starting. Lachrymation. Flickering; must wipe eyes frequently. Objects look shaded. Muscular asthenopia (Caust). Double vision; better only by bending head backward. Opacities of the vitreous humor. Promotes absorption of fragments of lens, after operation.

Artistic use of the Materia Medica leads to fantastic cures. Only the one well acquainted with the Materia Medica knows how to use the repertory efficiently.

A person came to me in the month of summer when the maximum temperature used to be 46 deg cel. He said that he has stitching sensation like needles due to summer heat. He also suffered from itching. A 51 yo gentleman came to me with complaint of right sided inguinal hernia. He works on daily wages and generally lacks confidence. He said that he doesn't have any other option but to go for surgery. He said that the government hospital is full of appointments and so his surgery can't be performed until next month. He said that his abdomen is always distended which worsens in the afternoon. He was given Lycopodium 1M. It relieved his abdominal distension and he got so much relieved that he didn't go for the surgery. He says that the hernia is not that troublesome abdominal distension was, so he doesn't see any need for the surgery.
